DANNER and JAMHOMEMADE. Two brands with different cultural roots came together to create a leather shoe called Utopia.

The inspiration for this design came from Spike Lee's 2020 live film "American Utopia," starring David Byrne.
Gray suits, bare feet, and a pared-down stage. Yet, bodies dance, and the audience rises to their feet, singing along, "To a place yet unnamed." It's the bible of live film.

These shoes aim not for a finished product, but for a beauty in progress.
The base shoe chosen is the plain-toe (Oxford), the most basic of leather shoes, originating in the 19th century. While a symbol of formality, it has also transcended boundaries, surviving war, work, and everyday life to blend into casual wear.

This piece combines the iconic butcher and balmoral constructions.
Neither one nor the other. Neither rejects the other.
The diversity and coexistence enshrined in American utopia are embodied in the very structure of these shoes.
