EVANGELION 30th ANNIVERSARY PROJECT
Neon Genesis Evangelion, which began airing on TV in 1995, reached a major milestone in 2025: its 30th anniversary. To celebrate this momentous anniversary year, RADIO EVA launched a project titled "THE 30." As part of this project, a special anniversary model was created, fusing JAM HOME MADE's classic rider's jacket "MONSTAR" with Evangelion Unit-01.
Rider's jackets are garments that have evolved with the times, starting with their functionality for riding motorcycles. JAM HOME MADE's "MONSTAR" returns to that origin, fusing two previously unconnected "perfect forms" to create a unique model with an asymmetrical structure. It can be described as a berserk entity that ignores the center line and has lost its left and right sides.
The left side of the jacket pays homage to the details of Lewis Leathers' "MONZA," a masterpiece born in left-hand traffic Britain. The sharp shoulder pads and waist belt design symbolize British rationality and aesthetics.
The right side of the jacket features details from Schott's "ONE STAR," the origin of right-hand traffic America. It embodies a rugged and perfected presence, arguably the prototype for all rider jackets.
The asymmetrical design is achieved not through symmetry or balance, but through "fusion and collision." Behind this philosophy lies the legendary modified motorcycle "TRITON," hailed as the fastest ever, which combined the most powerful engine with the best frame. Rather than aiming for perfection, it evolves as an uncontrollable structure—that is the essence of MONSTAR.
In this work, the structural beauty of MONSTAR is superimposed with the existence of Evangelion Unit-01. The lining and cuff leather feature colors reminiscent of Unit-01, and the back boldly prints the words "General-Purpose Humanoid Decisive Weapon Artificial Human Evangelion Unit-01" in a handwritten-style typography. Furthermore, a print symbolizing Unit-01 is placed on the left sleeve, and the snap buttons are newly made using custom molds. These are subtle signs that only the wearer will notice. No compromises were made on the details. Vintage-symbolizing TALON and SCOVILL GRIPPER zippers are used in key places. Chrome-tanned cowhide leather is used, achieving a high level of durability, color development, and beautiful aging. A pocket for a disposable hand warmer is included on the back of the collar, adding a touch of humor and thoughtfulness to the rugged exterior.
Different cultures, different ideologies, different archetypes. MONSTAR, which brings these together not through symmetry but through a kind of rampage, strongly resonates with the Evangelion series, which embodies conflict and duality. All made in Japan. This special anniversary model embodies respect for 30 years of history and a determination to continue moving forward into the future.
